Web, Mobile App & IoT Development Services

CREAHIVE is a software development company in San Diego. We design, build and look after websites, web applications, mobile apps and connected (IoT) products, and we stay on after launch to keep them fast, secure and up to date.

Website development

Most businesses come to us for a website, and most of those sites are WordPress: it is easy for your team to edit, it has a large ecosystem, and it does not lock you in to one vendor. We build custom themes rather than stacking page builders and dozens of plugins, because a lean theme loads faster, breaks less often on updates and is easier to secure.

A typical website project covers:

  • Structure and content plan: which pages you need, what each one is for, and how visitors move from a landing page to a call, a booking or a purchase.
  • Design and build: a responsive layout that works on phones first, accessible markup (headings, alt text, contrast, keyboard navigation) and editable blocks for the parts you will change often.
  • E-commerce: WooCommerce shops with payments, shipping, tax and inventory, or a lighter checkout when you only sell a few products.
  • Search basics built in: clean URLs, titles and descriptions, an XML sitemap, structured data and fast load times, so the site starts on the right foot with Google.
  • Launch: redirects from old URLs, analytics, a contact form that actually reaches you, and a short handover so your team can edit content.

When a static site is the better fit (a landing page, a tool, a site that rarely changes), we build it static: nothing to update, almost nothing to attack, and very fast.

Web application development

When a website needs logins, dashboards, data that changes in real time or workflows specific to your business, it becomes a web application. We build these with modern JavaScript and PHP stacks (Node.js, React and Next.js on the front end, REST APIs and SQL databases behind them) and run them on servers we manage.

Common examples

  • Customer portals and member areas
  • Internal tools and admin dashboards that replace spreadsheets
  • Lead capture and quote forms connected to a CRM or email platform
  • Automations between the tools you already use (forms, email, CRMs, spreadsheets, payment providers)
  • Status pages, monitoring and reporting

We keep the first version small: the one workflow that saves the most time or earns the most, shipped early and used by real people, then extended based on what they actually do.

Mobile app development

We build apps for iPhone and Android, either natively or with a cross-platform toolkit when one shared codebase is the sensible choice. An app is usually one part of a larger system, so we build the backend and admin side with it: user accounts, the API the app talks to, push notifications and the dashboard your team uses to manage content and users.

Before writing code, we will help you answer one question honestly: does this need to be an app? If your users need push notifications, offline use or device hardware such as the camera or Bluetooth, an app is worth it. If they mainly browse, book or buy, a responsive web app is usually cheaper and reaches everyone. Our guide Mobile app or web app? How to decide walks through that choice in detail.

IoT development

Connected products have three parts that must work together: the device, the cloud, and the app people use to control it. We work across all three:

  • Device side: firmware and the connection layer (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy, cellular) with secure provisioning and over-the-air updates.
  • Cloud side: collecting device data, storing it, raising alerts and exposing an API.
  • User side: the mobile or web app for pairing, control, history and notifications.

Security is part of the design from the start: unique credentials per device, encrypted connections, a way to patch devices in the field, and no default passwords. More on how we build connected products: IoT product development.

Hosting, care and maintenance

A website is never really finished. Plugins and frameworks release updates, browsers change, and automated attacks never stop. We host client sites on our own managed server and look after them:

  • Core, theme and plugin updates, tested on a staging copy before they go live
  • Daily backups and restore when needed
  • Web application firewall rules, malware scans and login protection
  • Uptime and SSL certificate monitoring
  • Performance work: caching, image optimisation, database clean-up
  • Small content and design changes on request

Already have a site somewhere else? We can audit it, fix what is urgent and take it over, or simply advise your current team. Read more about WordPress website care and maintenance.

How a project runs

  1. Scoping call. What you want to achieve, who the users are, what exists today, and any deadline that matters.
  2. Written estimate. Scope, timeline and cost, broken down by feature, so there are no surprises.
  3. Design and prototype. Layouts or clickable prototypes you can react to before anything is built.
  4. Build on staging. You get a private staging link and see progress as it happens, not only at the end.
  5. Test and launch. Cross-device testing, redirects, analytics and a launch checklist.
  6. Look after it. Ongoing care, or a clean handover if your team takes it from there. The code is yours.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to build a website?

It depends on scope more than anything else. A small marketing site with a handful of pages and content ready to go is a matter of weeks; a shop, a membership site or anything with custom integrations takes longer. The slowest part is usually content and feedback rounds, not code. We agree a timeline in writing before work starts.

What decides the cost of a project?

The number of distinct page templates and features, integrations with other systems (payments, CRMs, shipping, APIs), how much content needs to be written or migrated, and whether there is a mobile app or hardware involved. We give a written estimate after a scoping call, broken down so you can see where the effort goes. Our website cost guide explains each factor.

Should I build a mobile app or a responsive web app?

If your users need push notifications, offline use, the camera, Bluetooth or other device hardware, or you want to be found in the App Store and Google Play, a mobile app makes sense. If people mainly read, search, book or buy, a fast responsive web app is usually cheaper to build and maintain and works on every device.

Do you look after a site after launch?

Yes. We host and maintain sites on our own managed server: software and security updates, backups, uptime checks, firewall rules and small content changes. You can also take the code and run it elsewhere; you own what we build for you.

Do you only work with clients in San Diego?

No. Our office is in downtown San Diego, but most projects run remotely with video calls, a shared task list and a staging site you can click through at every step.

Can you take over an existing website or app?

Yes. We start with an audit of the code, hosting, plugins and security, fix anything urgent, and then agree what to improve. Taking over is often cheaper than a rebuild.
